If you follow me on instagram you might have noticed that since last autumn I've been regularly going for a laser hair removal session with Klaudia from Skinsleek Vienna.
Every time I post something about it on Instagram I'm getting some questions about the treatment, so here a small Q & A with most import information you need to know about this procedure.
1. LASER HAIR REMOVAL - HOW DOES IT WORK?
During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) that produce hairs. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth.
Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
Depending on the laser, you and the technician will need to wear appropriate eye protection. It will also be necessary to protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel. This will help the laser light get inside the skin.
2. DOES IT HURT?
I would say it mostly doesn't. But you might experience some pinching sensation or the treated place might feel like it's heating up. The feeling only lasts a few seconds and generally stops when the laser does. It's all also depending on the area and your body sensitivity. Bikini zone and armpits are the most sensitive.
But NO, if you've ever experienced waxing pain ,it's nothing to compare with that!!
3. HOW MANY TREATMENTS SHOULD I HAVE?
Each person differs according to skin and hair colour and the density of their hair, but I would say between 8-12 sessions, with each session every 4-12 weeks.
Since the hair is treated when it's in the growth phase, as this is not the case for all hair at the same time, several sessions are necessary.
4. IS THE LASER HAIR REMOVAL PERMAMENT? Lasers will permanently reduce the amount of hair growth.
Some areas of the body will experience permanent removal of hair while other areas may need some maintenance from time to time. After each visit, hair growth will be further reduced and you will require fewer sessions.
5. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Depending on the area, between 39€-200€.
As it might seem a bit pricey, I look at this more as an investment. The comfort and saved time you get from no need to shave again is, in my opinion, worth the price.
What I need to add is, be sure you are going to a specialist! In this case the price is often an indicator, how good the salon is. It's your body and your health that would be at risk if you don't pay attention to that.

I can most certainly recommend the laser hair removal. Already after 3 sessions I see huge differences. 2 weeks after the treatment the hair from the treated area starts falling out and first after a couple of weeks new hair appears. That's when I know it's time for the next appointment. :)
I already can't wait for hairless summer with no ingrown hair and free of razors!!
